  1. Sahan says:

MR P how do you work out what — CH3OOH – why cant it be CH3O2H

    • Mr. P says:

CH3COOH is ethanoic acid (also called acetic acid).

Its formula is written the way it is because of the arrangement of the atoms in the molecule. The branch of chemistry which deals with these type of molecules (with C H and O) in them is called organic chemistry which is covered in upper school.

You just need to be aware of the one molecule, CH3COOH, as it is used in year 9 and 10.

  2. Sahan says:

MR. P do we have to learn the order of the periodic table for the test ?

  3. Mr. P says:

Naming compounds will be in the test,

When naming compounds, brackets mean nothing. Brackets are used to indicate how many of each group of atoms there are.

    E.g: Ca(OH)2 means 2 lots of (OH). 2 oxygens and 2 hydrogens.

ok.. thanks :) and for some reason the only file uploaded is the kinetic theory of matter and the solutions, all the other files aren’t uploaded ( they are just names of the actual sheets!) :o

  4. carol says:

Mr. P, will the test have any naming compounds in it?! and how would you do questions 11,16, 20 they have the bracket part!

  5. Radhika says:
